Mr. Abid holds Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Punjab (September 1972). He has been a Fellow Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) since 1976.He currently serves as a Board member of Arcapita Investment Company, Bahrain since 2014; and as a Board member of Liva Insurance, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since 2024.

Mr. Abid held prominent positions in Ernst & Young across the region, latest of which he was appointed Assurance Leader for Ernst and Young Middle East and North Africa (1999-2012) and has vast experience within the profession spanning more than 41 years. In 2012, Mr. Abid received the World Islamic Banking Conference Industry Leadership Award in recognition of his contribution to the Islamic Banking industry.

Formerly: Mr. Abid served as Chairman of the Accounting Standards Committee and Vice Chairman of the Accounting and Auditing Standards Board of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI); Independent Director, Kuwait Finance House in State of Kuwait (2014-2026), Kingdom of Bahrain (2015-2020) and Malaysia (2017-2020); Chairman of the Audit Committee and Chairman of the Board Human Resources Committee at Meezan Bank, one of the largest Islamic Banks in Pakistan (2014-2021); Board Member at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital in Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (2014-2025); Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Shaheer Corporation, Pakistan (ended in 2019).
