Vice Chairman of Shari’a Supervisory
Board

Sheikh Dr. Fareed Mohamed Hadi Al Abbasi, former Dr. of Hadith and Fiqh at the University of Bahrain, holds his first PhD from the University of Edinburgh – Scotland – United Kingdom, and his second PhD from Mohammed V University in the Kingdom of Morocco.

He served as Head of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Bahrain, and was seconded to teach medical students and postgraduate students at the Arabian Gulf University for four years. He was appointed Chairman of the Committee for Developing the Islamic Banking Program at the University of Bahrain, and subsequently served as Head of the Islamic Banking Department since the establishment of the program from 2012 to 2018. He has also been the Director of the Bahrain Institute for Shari’a Studies, operating under the supervision and oversight of the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs and Endowments in the Kingdom of Bahrain, from its establishment in 2002 until the present.

He is a member of the Fatwa and Shari’a Supervisory Boards in several Islamic institutions and banks inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain. He has also participated in reviewing numerous academic research papers, and has authored numerous scholarly papers and studies in Islamic jurisprudence and contemporary financial transactions.
